Project Name: Consultancy Services for Environmental and Social Impact Assessment of Piped Water Supply and Sanitation Schemes in Five Selected Towns/RGCs

Description

The Water and Sanitation Development Facility South Western Branch (WSDF-SWB) has received funds from the Government of Uganda for the construction piped water supply and sanitation schemes in selected towns of South-Western Uganda. However, pursuant to sections in the National Environment Act, Cap 153, and further pursuant to the EIA Regulations, 1998, water resources related projects should undergo EIA studies before implementation.

As such therefore, WSDF-SWB wishes to engage competent Firms to provide Consultancy services for the Environmental and Social impact assessment for the construction of Piped Water Supply and Sanitation Schemes in Kashaka-Bubaare, Bukinda in Rukyiga District, Kibugu in Kisoro District, Rubirizi and Nyakatonzi-Bigando in Kasese District.

Objective: To improve the socio-economic situation and the opportunities for people living in Small Towns/Rural Growth Centres targeted through provision of safe, adequate, reliable, sustainable and accessible water supply and promotion of improved practices of hygiene and sanitation in the project area.

Scope

  • Acquaint themselves with all the proposed works at the various project component sites
  • Survey all the identified sites
  • Analyze the operational concerns of the water treatment plant and management of environmental impacts of the resulting liquid and solid wastes.
  • Record the views and concerns of the neighboring and affected communities.
  • Identify the relevant regulations and clauses in the National Environmental regulations and National Environmental Statute among other legislations and regulatory framework which are applicable to such facilities
  • Consult with relevant stakeholders and incorporate their comments into the EIA as appropriate.
  • Prepare an Environmental Management Plan (EMP) for the implementation of the proposed project.
