Project Name: Supervision of Environment, Safety, Health and Social Safeguards Management, Monitoring and Consultancy Services for Lot 3: Recycling and Overlay of Lukuli Road, Including Signalization of Lukuli/Namasole/Kayemba Junction (7.8km)

Description: Kampala Capital City Authority(KCCA) received financing from the World Bank towards the cost of Second Kampala Institutional and Development Infrastructure Development Project (KIIDP 2) and applied part of the funds toward payments under the contract for recycling and overlay of Lukuli road (7.78 km) including signalization of Lukuli, Namasoole and Kayemba junctions. Stirling Civil Engineering is an established civil engineering company operating in Uganda for the last 30 years. It was contracted in Joint Venture with Sobetra Uganda Ltd by Kampala Capital City Authority to undertake the civil works for Recycling and overlay of Lukuli Road (7.78 km) including signalization of Lukuli, Namasoole and Kayemba Junctions.

Objective: Providing Environment, Safety, Health and Social Safeguards Management, Monitoring and Consultancy Services

Scope

  • Document occupational health and safety activities, events and other aspects
  • Ensuring that trained first aid personnel, transport for sick or injured workers, and a first aid kits are available at each site at all times.
  • Coordinating and carrying out daily, weekly and monthly safety work-plan along the road project and ensuring that monthly targets are efficiently and effectively achieved.
  • Monitoring occupational health and safety for the project related activities
  • Organize and provide workers with training in safe work practices and general awareness of potential danger situations to avoid injuries at the site.
  • Carry out Community sensitizations/engagements and/or awareness along the project road
  • Coordinate and implement HIV/AIDS implementation and sensitization plan on the Project
  • Ensure level of compliance with the conditions in the different licenses, certificates and permits and CESMP and Uganda’s legal framework.
  • Ensure that Project is executed in compliance with Environmental Management Plan, Environmental Management Procedure, Potential Risk Register, Potential Risk Mitigation Plan and any other Environment-related documents.
  • Implement recommendations of the Environment Management Plan embedded in the project ESIA and other project approval permits and licenses like the wetland permits
